All-time favorite songs
I was inspired by Des who made a post with the lyrics to "A Long December" to write a post about my favorite songs of all time. I don't tend to listen to obscure bands or hipster music. I have a preference for '90s sounds and more classic rock. Wow, what a fantastic and detailed post. You have excellent taste in music. You highlighted some outstanding musicians and lyrics here. To me, of all the arts I find music to be the most challenging and compelling. It seems like there are so many components that are necessary in order to be a great musician. And music seems to inspire and inform all of the other arts.
I have such a profound respect for muscicians. It seems like such a difficult and rewarding vocation.
Thanks a lot, Des. It took me forever to get the HTML right and I had to turn to iWork and screen captures to do it, but I'm glad I finally managed to post it. And thanks for posting those Counting Crows lyrics, because they're definitely what made me want to write this. As you can see, Counting Crows are one of my top 5 artists.
I agree with you about music being the most compelling and challenging art. Even though literature and movies can be a comfort at times, I don't think as many people find solace in them as in music. Of course, it might very well change as you get older, but in your teens and twenties, music still has that ability to get you through tough times, or provide a soundtrack to happy ones.
And of course, finding great sounds to match great lyrics or the other way around must be a very difficult thing.
